In our daily occurrences, we may need an attorney who can handle our child custody issues, legal issues or even help in writing a will. Looking for one can prove tedious, that is why the New York State Bar Association trusted Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) has come up with a more convenient way of seeking for lawyers. It has created an online portal for people who are looking for attorneys. LRIS has assured individuals that they will be matched with attorneys that have the relevant experience and apt credentials, which have been verified by the New York State Bar Association.
The online service is quite straightforward. The person in need of the lawyer’s services accesses the website where he or she fills out a private questionnaire with a description of the kind of legal aid they need together with their location. The ball gets to the State Bar staff who review the survey and matches the potential client with an attorney that has an office in the community. The referrals are not payable. Once the customer talks to the lawyer they have been referred to, a fee of $35 is applicable for the first half hour of consultation. After the first consultation, one may retain the attorney at their own will. If this happens, the additional fee is agreed upon by the lawyer and the client.
